MORPHOLOGY


External characteristics


Male 
Forewing length (mm): 36-41. Wingspan (mm): 59-63.
Forewings: Upperside mostly dark brown with creamish spots as follows: complete series of submarginal spots and a similar series of median spots, and narrow elongate spots near bases of spaces 4-7; underside similar, but much paler Hindwings very slightly crenulate, no tail; upperside and underside dark/pale brown with four creamish, strongly curved, submarginal spots followed by two series of small internervular spots.

Subspecies and variation

 

Similar species

Rather similar to G. ramaceus ramaceus, but the two do not overlap in distribution. Also rather similar to female G. macareus macareus, but again the two do not overlap. For the similarity with Euploea (Nymphalidae: Danainae), see under G. ramaceus.
