MORPHOLOGY


External characteristics


Male 

Forewings: The forewing lacks the white spots on the marginal border. The forewing has a conspicuous costal border. The marignal border is purple shaded on the underside wing surface (Yata and Morishita, 1979). Hindwings The hindwing underside is clear yellow coloured (Yata and Morishita, 1979).

Female  
The hindwing upper side is stained by yellow scales and the marginal border is broader (Yata and Morishita, 1979).  

Subspecies and variation

 
Six subspecies are described (D'Abrera, 1982; Yata and Morishita, 1979). Ssp. semperi and ssp. cirta are similar, but the latter one has in both sexes narrower black margins on the underside wing surface (D'Abrera, 1982).

Similar species

This species is similar to Cepora perimale, but is larger (Yata and Morishita, 1979).
